7 Best Mail-Order Chocolate Chip Cookies
Chocolate chip cookies
Some of us are old enough to remember when fresh, warm chocolate chip cookies could be bought from retail stores like Mrs. Fields and David's Cookies. Today, both those brands are available via mail order. Mail-order cookie delivery has become more prevalent over the last few decades, as cookies are sturdy enough to ship and able to stay fresh for several days if packaged correctly. While there were a few companies shipping cookies in the mid-20th century, Cheryl’s Cookies popularized the method in the 1980s and 1990s when they began mailing cookies via catalog around the country from their Ohio storefront.
Now there are dozens of cookie brands and small-batch bakers mailing their tasty treats around the world. With so much competition, it’s hard to determine which are the best, but we did some research and narrowed it down. Here are some of our favorite places to order chocolate chip cookies through the mail.
Levain chocolate chip cookies
Levain has become synonymous with the best cake-style cookies. What started in 1995 as a bread-focused bakery on New York City’s Upper West Side soon attracted a following for its massive crispy-on-the-outside and gooey-on-the-inside Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie. Now Levain celebrates 30 years with multiple locations across the country and national shipping in cute tins. Levain’s hefty 6-ounce cookies are a must on any best cookie list: Aside from the original Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie, their Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip, nut-free Two Chip Chocolate Chip Cookie, and Caramel Coconut Chocolate Chip Cookie are all worth the indulgence.
The Last Crumb
Last Crumb cookies are luxurious. What does that mean? When your sleek black box of the Core Collection arrives in packaging that look like an expensive handbag could be hiding inside, you’ll start to understand. Priced at more than $100, the matte box contains a detailed booklet about each of the 12 individually wrapped soft-baked cookies with cheeky names like Better Than Sex, S’mores Sans Campfire, What the ***** Velvet, and Netflix and Crunch. While many of these flavors seemed like they would be too sweet, we were joyfully surprised to discover that none of these cookies are treacly, with several offering that all-important salty note—yes even the s’mores one. Overall, these cookies have the soft, crumbly texture and complex flavors to justify their high price tag.
Maui Cookie Company
Another hefty, soft-baked cookie purveyor, the Maui Cookie Lady was founded by Mitzi Toro in 2012, originally as a fundraiser for Maui Memorial Hospital. Now, her beloved 4-inch cookies are shipped nationwide. Toro uses Hawai’i-sourced ingredients when possible, with bestseller White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookie featuring Waihe’e Valley macadamias and Kona Coffee Dark Chocolate Espresso Cookie featuring beans roasted by Maui OMA Coffee Roasting. Her original cookie was the ButterRum Triple Chunker, which has milk, dark, and white chocolate, and it’s still a bestseller. Her most chocolate of all chocolate chip cookie is the Choc Choc Chip cookie and includes three types of chocolate, a velvet cocoa, milk chocolate drops and semi-sweet chocolate.

Gracie Bensimon got her start baking cookies in college when she launched a late-night treats delivery service called S’more to Door. After graduating, she worked at Milk Bar and then launched Gracie Baked in Brooklyn, where she bakes cute and tasty treats, doing pop-ups around the city, offering local pick-up, and shipping across the country. Her cookies, which are on the smaller side, are packed with flavor. You can build your own box (minimum of six cookies) by selecting from monthly rotating options like Cookies ‘n’ Cream Cookie, a classically shaped cookie made with Oreos and white chocolate chips and topped with sea salt, and Reese’s Butterfinger Candy Cookie, a thicker rectangular chocolate cookie bar stuffed with a homemade Reese’s Butterfinger mixture.
Wiliam Greenberg chocolate chip cookies
William Greenberg Desserts is famous for classic black and white cookies. The bakery, which has been open since 1946, has locations on Manhattan’s Upper East Side and Upper West Side, but they ship nationally. The giant cookies are about 5 inches in diameter and feature a cakey cookie coated with chocolate frosting on one half and vanilla on the other. Their version of a chocolate chip cookie comes in the standard crispy, crunchy style or with a distinctive black and white cookie look, thanks to a half dip in melted chocolate.

The OG Salty Heifer Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie
Iesha Williams started the Salty Heifer in Brooklyn, selling her creative cookies online, with complimentary two-day shipping anywhere in the country. Her OG Salty Heifer Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie, combines four different chocolates with smoked pork fat and butter and hints at her fine dining background. Her most unique creation is perhaps her plantain cookie aka Plátano en Tentación, which features plantains—a staple in her native Panama—perfectly caramelized in butter infused with warm spices, a sprinkle of brown sugar, and a delightful hint of orange zest. Another Latin American inspiration is her Café Con Leche Brown Sugar Cookie, with chunky pieces of Valrhona Chocolate in Café Noir, Dark Caribe, and malted Ivoire white chocolate.
